The other day I was given a large piece on the front page of the Tokyo Shimbun.
That article is here:

Fighting — breast cancer and bad roads: I was in the Tokyo Shimbun

And then on 12 May, right before departure, my local paper, the Akita Sakigake Shimpo,
gave me a large piece too.

This one is online as well.

That is right — I am from Akita City, in Akita Prefecture.
Akita has wonderful food, mountains and sea, and is a very good place to be,
but plenty of people have never been.

And the image of women from Akita is, well, the demure Japanese ideal.
Through this challenge, simply being from Akita has been enough to surprise people
that such a woman exists there at all.

The paper ran on 12 May — Mother’s Day.
I have done nothing but worry my mother back home, so perhaps this counts as making it up to her.

Apparently a great many people from the area got in touch with her, which is a lovely thing.
My heartfelt thanks to the Akita Sakigake Shimpo for the interview.

They are going to follow this report too, so I want to come home
with a result I can be properly proud of.
