With the yen this weak, the penny-pinching trip continues. Food being expensive is fine, since that is my own choice —
but today’s goal was tuning the challenge car, so I needed to get to a workshop in Witney, a small English town. Having landed at the airport in the middle of the night, I headed there via Oxford.
I thought about a hire car — and it came to ¥70,000.
A taxi, then — no less than ¥20,000 one way. So instead I worked out a route on the local buses.
Hauling big bags, hopping from stop to stop, eyes glued to Google Maps the whole way.
Even so, a bus driver waved at me now and then, and I could take it easy, watching the scenery.
But — the bus simply would not come.
The route and the time both showed up on my phone, but no bus.
I pulled myself together and looked again. Still no bus.
In the end I lost more than half the day to travel — but the sun sets late in England, so since it was my birthday, I still got a little bonus time to enjoy.
