The 14,000 km road from Peking to Paris runs over sealed public roads, graded surfaces, desert and tracks that are not roads at all — and the goal is, of course, to finish.
We need whatever it takes to keep going to the finish on the final day.
Through a long rally the driver works at it, learning and sharpening technique as they go.
Even in practice, rallying sits next to danger. You take the failures as fuel and go into the event with them.
The Vitz we also use as a publicity car (not the rally car) went over.
And ended up looking like this. Oh dear.
The nerve to gather it up without panicking
What impressed me most was the nerve of it: rolling the car, gathering it up and driving on as though nothing had happened.
Not even a sound out of him.
Though if I did that on Peking to Paris I would be dead.
More money out of the door. Next month we have decided to fit a roll cage to the pre-war Buick.
How it turns out — look forward to it. I will report again.
Honestly, this challenge is so much that it nearly breaks me. What sort of feeling is waiting at the end of it?
