Everyone keeps travelling the journey called a life. Of course there is nothing wrong with a calm, safe journey that takes no risks. But you can also choose to take on an outrageous adventure. Further education, work, sport, art, starting a business … anything at all. An adventure, I think, is the dream or the goal inside you. And however small that dream or goal might look to someone else, dreams and goals are not large or small. The only question is whether you want to take it on — whether you seriously want it to happen. Tell someone about an “adventure of a life” like this, and you will sometimes be denied, or mocked …

Right now I am holding up a huge challenge of my life — a first for a Japanese woman, the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge — and driving towards it with a great deal of support from across the country.

Taking on a challenge means running into all sorts of tests and moments close to breaking, but alongside that, supporters kept appearing, little by little,and it led me into an outlandish connection.

A radio show, given as part of that support

“Why not use a radio slot to spread word of your challenge!”

After appearing on the show of the well-known speaker Fumiaki Nakamura (centre), and with a great deal of support from my backers pushing me along, before I knew it, I had made my debut as a radio presenter!

My co-host, running the show with me, is Hisayo Hotta — “Jenifa”, whom I met through my support team
(bottom, far right).

As for my first time as a radio presenter —

“I have no idea about timing.”
“I don’t know what to say.”
“I have to say something good!” — the harder I tried, the more of a mess I made, and this is what it looked like (ugh).

But even starting from there, our radio show has, the longer it runs,

brought out one “divine guest” after another.

The concept, “laugh, and the gods will come to the door”, does not mean we are the gods —
it is everyone who has backed this challenge who counts as “the gods”, and we invite them on as guests
to introduce them!

Every episode brings a wonderful “divine guest”,
and for the recording broadcast on 27 November 2022, remarkably —

a millionaire living in Dubai!
