You often hear that the classic car world is a rich person’s pastime, faintly aristocratic.
But I am not out rallying because I have ability, or money, or time.
In a sense I was born disabled, with neither dreams nor hopes, and once I was out in the world I did not understand its conventions and lived awkwardly, as an oddity.
And yet that person is driving the world.
A life with an empty purse and an empty bank book
One rally empties both the purse and the bank book.
Doing what everyone else does with their time would never be enough.
From five in the morning:
a factory,
fast food,
housekeeping,
making advertising for companies,
assisting a certain someone,
web design.
I will do anything, because I want to drive rallies.
This is how I have made it happen.
What do you work for?
What do you live towards?
Once you are clear about what you will do when you have the money, everything you can see changes.
I am not enough of a figure to teach rallying, nor enough to teach anyone about cars. The road I have walked has only ever been very simple thinking and very simple action.
All of it is within anyone’s reach, and the point is for all of us to drive a life we enjoy.
I will keep driving alongside you.
