Last night I slept like the dead… still no change of clothes, no bath.
Even so, morning comes, and the start goes ahead.
By now, even the other competitors and the organizers were genuinely impressed, saying things like “you two have really held on this far…,”
and we'd kept pushing forward without ever mentioning retirement.

By this point… there's really nothing left to do. Day 8, we simply have to take the shortest possible route back to the finish and negotiate our retirement…
Day 8's finish hotel gave us a gorgeous seaside view and some healing camel company, and at this point, why not, so I gave in and rode a camel for a change of mood!

This beautiful sunset soothed a tangled mix of feelings — the frustration, and a real sense of having done everything I possibly could.

On day 9, we officially retire…
The reports still continue all the way to the end.
Thank you so much for reading all the way to the end!
